The Rooster Returns
Read our innkeeper Dean’s press release of the “rescue” of our beloved silverware mascot! Wonders never cease.
Ashland, Oregon, March 5, 2026. “Sir Chanticleer,” the mascot of Chanticleer Inn and watcher of comings and goings on Gresham Street – who had his leg broken off when he was stolen from the garden in January of 2025 – has been recovered! The 5 foot, 200 pound sculpture was found through a listing on Facebook Marketplace. It seems that whoever stole the statue sold it to an unsuspecting Ashland resident several months ago at a moving sale, They in turn decided to sell him via Facebook Marketplace. A local artist who knew that the statue had been stolen saw the marketplace listing and brought it to the attention of Inn management, who met with the unsuspecting Ashland resident that evening and brought the bird home. Repairs were needed so Sir Chanticleer went back to Artist Steve Fremming for a tune up and re-do of his mounting to be more secure. The re-installation was finished today and Sir Chanticleer is back on Gresham Street watching.
Owners Julie and Johnny Mathison invite all to the re-dedication block party on Friday May 15th From 5-7pm, a community celebration. Cookies and lemonade will be served. Call 541.482.1919 with questions.
