The Innkeeper
Meet your hosts
Your innkeeper Dean Clark has spent many years as an innkeeper, first as the longtime owner of The Blue Moon B&B right here in Ashland, then as a relief innkeeper for the legendary Iris Inn, now closed after decades of serving guests. He also spent some time managing a property in Kauai before taking time off to care for his aging mom. Now, Dean brings his extensive skills to the Chanticleer Inn where he’s known for an eye for detail, delicious breakfasts, and impeccable taste. He also brings a deep relationship with the theater arts to his role in the Ashland scene, having previously worked as Company Manager for Broadway touring shows, including STOMP, The King and I, and many others. Dean looks forward to guiding your stay as you discover all that Ashland has to offer, and to taking care of you as only a seasoned innkeeper can.
Julie and Johnny Mathison are the owners, and occasionally interim innkeepers, of the Chanticleer Inn — a wonderful opportunity to meet with many of the long-term guests who have made this inn a special place for decades.
Julie is also an award-winning writer of books for young people and adults, and her novels can be enjoyed (and purchased!) at the inn or Bloomsbury Books, right on Main. Johnny is the owner of a safety management firm, though around the inn and gardens you will mostly see him fixing sprinklers. They also love travel and wine! This picture hails from a recent trip to Spain which featured a trip to the La Rioja region and Galicia. The Rogue Valley wine scene is on the rise, and you can expect to find many fine local wines for purchase in the inn, as well as upcoming wine-focused events.
We hope you will join us at the Chanticleer and let our magical staff take care of you. The theater is thriving, and there is so much to see and do in Ashland, year round. Here’s to the bard!
