Outdoor Adventures
Let’s get outside.
Ashland loves its outdoor life. Lithia Park, designed by landscape artist John McLaren of Golden Gate Park fame, was dedicated in 1916 and has been the heart of Ashland ever since. An estimated 310 miles of trails radiate out from Ashland in a breathtaking trail system that runs the gamut from a stroll by Ashland Creek to rigorous, mountainside treks. Ideal for hiking or mountain biking, you can depart directly from the end and be on the trails in minutes.
A mere 30-minute drive from the Chanticleer Inn, Mt. Ashland Ski Area offers downhill skiing and snowboarding from the mountain’s 7,533-foot summit, as well as cross-country and snowshoeing options for the winter enthusiast.
And don’t forget rafting on the Rogue and Upper Klamath rivers. Expeditions leave directly from Ashland for half and full-day tours, exposing you to some of the finest and most exciting rafting experiences in the West.
Hiking, biking, skiing, rafting, or just enjoying the rolling, Ashland hills – when it comes to the outdoor life, Ashland has it all. Let us take care of you with one of our outdoor packages, or let our innkeeper, Angela, help you design your own adventure. And when the day is done, come back to the inn to enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of tea – by the fire in winter, or the pond in summer. Whatever the season, you’ll find both comfort and excitement at the Chanticleer Inn.

“We had a spectacular 3 nights -- Ellen’s advice about what to do in the area was spot on and the maps she provided very helpful -- walking to the nearby Shakespeare Festival and great restaurants and shopping blocks away was so convenient. Our room was spotless and we enjoyed private access to the garden where we had picnic lunches. As vegetarians, we were well accommodated at breakfast and we ate way too many of the home-baked cookies that were restocked daily. We also enjoyed meeting many of the regulars at breakfast who have booked the same week year after year. Having the New York Times available daily was a treat. All in all, we would love to return.”
